Pampanga crop damages now at P223M

SOME P223,969,360 worth of damages has been recorded in Pampanga from its agriculture and fisheries sector due to the onslaught of the Habagat, according to reports from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).

In its partial reports still to be verified by the Department of Agriculture, the OPA said some P138,341,239 worth of damage was recorded in Pampanga’s palay production sector alone. Most of the damages have been recorded in the 4th district towns. San Luis town alone reported some P41,526,267 worth of damage along with Apalit town at P30,529,905. Candaba town alone reported some P21,679,177 worth of damage to its palay crops.

The third district town of Arayat reported the most damage to its palay crops at P6,429,114. Among second district towns, Lubao reported the highest damage to palay crops at P16,278,515.

The fisheries sector also incurred some P85,089,496 worth of damages particularly in the towns of Minalin, Masantol, Macabebe and Sasmuan. Minalin town alone reported some P35,895,950 worth of damages to its tilapia and shrimp production. Masantol also sustained damages to its fisheries sector at P25,986,620.

Damage to high-value crops is now at P488,000 mainly in the towns of Magalang and Minalin. Magalang also reported some P50,625 worth of damage to local corn crops in the town.
