BPI to launch 2 new mobile apps, reinvent branches this year

AYALA-LED Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) is planning to launch more mobile apps to cater to the digital needs of its various customer segments.

This year alone, BPI will be introducing two new mobile apps and a couple more in 2022.

“We will continue to invest in technology and people. We will continue to enhance our current digital platforms and develop new ones so we will be able to cater to all client segments. Being a digital banking leader doesn’t need us to create one super app for all but it needs building the right tools for different groups. We will have a suite of apps that can cater to every one of our customer segments and address every customer need,” said BPI president and chief executive officer Jose Teodoro Limcaoco in a virtual press briefing.

By the end of this year, Limcaoco said BPI will launch two new apps. One is designed for the small and medium enterprises (SMEs), while the other is a customer loyalty and rewards app, which will have a little payment capability.

This digital solution tailored for the SMEs will not only provide digital banking services but will also allow them to link to non-bank solutions that will help them run their businesses better, Limcaoco said.

He, however, declined to give more details of the apps due for launching next year. Limcaoco also reiterated that they do not need a digital banking license to service online-only clients.

“We don’t necessarily have to apply for a digital banking license because our operations at BPI and BPI Banko are digital already. We can do anything that a digital bank can do. There is no need for a specific license,” he said.

BPI has three existing mobile apps dedicated to retail, top corporate and SMEs.

On top of the new mobile apps, Limcaoco also announced that the bank will be launching mini apps or mini solutions, which they will deploy to different areas of BPI business to serve different clients to make their businesses better.
