THE Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) has extended financial assistance to the five survivors of the July 4 C-130 crash who are currently recuperating at Camp Panacan Hospital (CPH) in Davao City.

Lieutenant General Greg Almerol, Eastmincom chief, personally handed over the financial assistance when he visited the five survivors Saturday, August 7, at the CPH.

Almerol’s wife, Lynette, extended grocery supplies on behalf of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Officers Ladies Club.

Lieutenant Colonel Nerio Simbaahan, CPH commanding officer, accompanied Almerol and his wife during the visit to personally see the conditions of the survivors and assess what other assistance could be done to help them to assure their full recovery.

The recipients of the financial assistance and grocery goods were the following: Sergeant Bensaudi Asanulla; Private Stephen Maglacion; Private Cyrille De Castro; Private Ryan Tagubar; and, Private Christian Banug. They were previously admitted to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but later transferred to CPH to continue their recovery.

Another crash survivor, Sergeant James Miguel Ybañez, who is still confined to SPMC to undergo an operation, also received the same assistance through his brother-in-law, Sean Listher Baynosa.

“Unang-una po nagpapasalamat po ako sa panginoon dahil binigyan niya ako ng pangalawang buhay. Nagpapasalamat din po ako kina President Rodrigo Duterte, Mayor Sara Duterte, LtGen. Almerol at sa Philippine Army sa mga tulong na kanilang binigay sa amin,” survivor Private De Castro expressed.

The rest of the survivors, likewise voiced out their gratitude in separate statements to God for the second life and to all those who have extended their support and assistance.

Almerol lauded the courage and strength shown by the survivors after their sudden brush with death.

“The Command, together with Armed Forces of the Philippines, stands ready to provide the necessary needs of the survivors in our own little ways to help our brave men as they recuperate,” Almerol said.

“We continue to have them in our thoughts and prayers. We will see to it that we will be there at their side every step of the way. We also urge the people to continue praying not only for the survivors but also for the loved ones and families of those who lost their lives in the tragic incident,” Almerol added.

It can be recalled the crashed C-130 aircraft in Patikul, Sulu on July 4 carried cargo and 96 AFP personnel wherein 50 soldiers died and 46 others survived. (SunStar Zamboanga)
