ILOILO City Government has requested the National Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for an increased allocation for Covid-19 vaccines now that the city’s enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) status is extended to August 15, 2021.
“We are definitely asking for more Covid vaccines as an urgent need to achieve herd immunity faster,” Mayor Jerry P. Treñas said.
“Our vaccination rollout is working efficiently, still only 24.49 percent of our target population has been vaccinated,” he added.
In a letter to Secretary Delfin Lorenzana, chief of IATF, Vaccine Czar Secretary Carlito G. Galvez Jr, and Secretary Eduardo Año of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, the city laments that the “recent confirmation of Delta variant infection speaks of the great danger” in the event of an outbreak.
It also stressed that with the 10,000 to 15,000 current daily inoculation rate of Iloilo City, the remaining vaccines would only last until August 19, 2021.
