THE City Government of Bacolod is now preparing an isolation facility for the possible entry of the Covid-19 Delta variant in the city.

This was stressed by City Administrator Em Ang Monday, August 9, 2021, after the Department of Health (DOH)-Western Visayas earlier announced that 31 Covid-19 Delta variant cases were detected in Western Visayas.

Ang, executive director of Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), said the city should prepare an isolation facility in case the Delta variant will be detected here.

She said they identified the Mariano G. Medalla Integrated Elementary School in Barangay Pahanocoy as the isolation facility for the Covid-19 Delta variant patient.

“Once we have a Delta variant here, the patient will be placed in a separate isolation facility to prevent the spread of the virus,” she added.

The Delta variant is considered more transmissible and more infectious.

Ang also clarified that as of Sunday, there was no Covid-19 Delta variant case in Bacolod City.

Ang said on Saturday, she received a text message that there was an alleged Delta variant case in one of the hospitals in the city.

“I verified it with the DOH-Western Visayas and as of Sunday, there is no reported case of Delta variant in Bacolod City,” she said.

She added the netizens should stop sharing fake news on social media because it creates worry and panic.

Dr. Edwin Miraflor, officer-in-charge of Bacolod City Health Office (CHO), earlier said that there is no Covid-19 Delta variant case in the city, but they recorded Covid-19 Alpha, Beta, and Theta or P.3 variants in Bacolod.

Meanwhile, Ang said Mayor Evelio Leonardia also tested negative for the novel coronavirus last week.

This, after 14 personnel from the Public Information Office has been tested positive for the virus as well as the five personnel from the City Mayor’s Office.

All of them were asymptomatic and were already transferred to the city’s quarantine facility. All of the close contacts also underwent swab tests.
