THOUSANDS of Masantoleños affected by massive flooding recently received assistance from a civic organization.
Pinuno (Pinatatag na Ugnayan para sa mga Oportunidad sa Pabahay ng Masa) organization distributed 5,000 relief goods to flood victims in town as part of its community outreach program.
Pinuno representative and one of the founders Ivan Howard Guintu said each food pack contained canned goods, coffee, noodles and five-kilo rice.
"Flooding devastated most of Masantol again and has disrupted the daily lives of residents, including their livelihood. We are hopeful that these relief packs will help them get through the coming days with food on their table," Guintu said.
The group also educated beneficiaries of the importance and their rights to have a safe and decent housing regardless of social status.
Pinuno group, which is eyeing representation at the Congress, seeks to create laws that will protect underprivileged and homeless citizens from unjust eviction, as well as provide low-cost housing to teachers and workers.
Mayor Danilo Guintu, who assisted during the distribution, expressed gratitude to Pinuno group for their assistance to Masantoleños.
"Most of us are still reeling from the effects of pandemic and the situation is now worsened by the flooding so this kind of assistance is really helpful to all Masantoleño families," he said.
