CCTO apprehends over 9,000 violators in July 2021

The Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) recorded 9,646 apprehensions in July 2021.

A total of 636 vehicles were clamped during daytime and overnight clamping operations and 284 motorcycles, 10 e-bikes, three private vehicles and one trailer truck were impounded due to no license, no registration or expired registration, among others.

Paul Gotiong, CCTO information officer said most of their operations focused on the main roads, some high-traffic areas and no-stopping zones of Cebu City.

Gotiong said the number of violators in July is less than that of May which had 14,000 violators.

Aside from the main roads, Gotiong said most of the operations were conducted on the secondary streets where illegal parking usually occurred.

He said every month, the CCTO has cases to be filed before the court that are usually unsettled violations after the 72-hour leeway given to violators.

Gotiong said compared to the previous month, only a few number of cases from July were filed before the court since the Department of Justice has a new format for filing cases.

Gotiong is positive that the number of violators will continue to decrease in August as Cebu City is under modified enhanced community quarantine from Aug. 1 to 15.

“We are positive and hopeful that there will be fewer violators. If you can also see in some of our bike lanes now, we do discipline motorists and we also monitor night parking,” Gotiong said. (MVE)
