Cebu hits 1M vaccine mark

THE entire island of Cebu has reached the one million mark in the total number of administered Covid-19 vaccine doses as of Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2021.

A total of 1,012,996 doses had been administered in the island’s highly urbanized cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu, and the 44 local government units (LGUs) and six component cities under the Provincial Government.

Of the number, 615,926 were first doses while 397,070 were second doses.

With Cebu island having a total population of 5,151,274 in 2020, this means nearly 12 percent of people on the island have received at least a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

Project Balik Buhay (PBB), the public-private partnership which helps out in government’s vaccination program fully vaccinated 18.35 percent of those eligible for vaccination in Metro Cebu, said Mary Jean Loreche, spokesperson of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC).

Metro Cebu is composed of the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga and the municipalities of Consolacion and Minglanilla. Minors are not eligible for vaccination.

According to the VVOC, Cebu City has fully vaccinated 21.01 percent of its eligible population while 27.98 percent received their first dose.

In Mandaue City, 22.27 percent of its target population had been fully vaccinated while 41.71 percent of registered individuals had been given their first dose, VVOC records showed.

In Lapu-Lapu City, 15.01 percent of its eligible population had been fully vaccinated while 35.36 percent received their first dose.

“We look forward to the next milestone on the one million for the first dose and one million for the fully vaccinated individuals,” Loreche said.

Doses’ Tally

Cebu City administered a total of 180,720 first dose jabs and 135,681 second doses while Mandaue City administered a total of 123,341 first dose jabs and 65,862 second doses.

Lapu-Lapu City administered 112,611 first dose jabs and 47,811 second dose jabs.

Meanwhile, Cebu Province administered 199,254 first dose jabs and 147,716 second dose jabs.

Across the region, Bohol administered 78,061 first dose jabs and 77,286 second dose jabs, Negros Oriental administered 76,162 first dose jabs and 88,137 second dose jabs, while Siquijor administered 20,996 first dose jabs and 24,927 second dose jabs, Loreche said.

As of Aug 8, the VVOC received a total of 1,196,840 Sinovac vaccines, 364,560 (AstraZeneca); 345,150 (Pfizer); 10,700 (Gamaleya); and 208,900 (Janssen) vaccines.

Loreche said 102,960 doses of Pfizer vaccines arrived Thursday, Aug. 12, with 42,120 doses to be distributed in Metro Cebu.

“Those who received Gamaleya or Sputnik, we still don’t have your second dose, but don’t worry even if your second dose is due because you can still receive your second dose beyond your schedule interval day within three months. But we will not let it reach three months,” Loreche said.

Meanwhile, data from the Cebu City Management Information and Computer Services (MICS) showed that as of Aug. 12, a total of 102,195 individuals have been fully vaccinated, or 14.6 percent of the City’s target population.

The MICS figures exclude those who got their jabs through the PBB and hospitals.

Cebu City hopes to inoculate 700,000 individuals to achieve herd immunity before yearend.

MICS officer-in-charge Richter Castañares also showed that aside from the fully vaccinated, 137,860 individuals have gotten their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in Cebu City, bringing the total number of inoculated persons to 240,055 since the vaccination program began last March 24.

Registration

The number of individuals who have registered in Cebu City’s vaccination program continued to rise.

As of Aug. 12, a total of 484,249 individuals had registered for vaccination in Cebu City.

To ramp up its vaccination program, Cebu City hopes to have 21 vaccination sites.

Currently, there are seven permanent vaccination sites in Cebu City located in the following areas: University of Cebu (UC) Banilad, Robinsons Galleria, SM Seaside, UC Senior High School Private Campus, New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home (Noah) Complex, Ayala Center Cebu, and Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino in Lahug.
