THE Ministry of Public Works in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (MPW-Barmm), through its First District Engineering Office in Sulu, targets to complete P48 million worth of road projects in the province by the end of 2021.

MPW Minister Eduard Guerra said the projects include the concreting of the two kilometers Hawani-Latih road in Patikul town worth P30 million, concreting of 500 meters Kasulutan road in Bus-Bus village, Jolo, the province capital worth P8 million, and the upgrading of 500 meters Jolo Port Terminal Road worth P10 million.

Guerra said the three infrastructure projects are funded under the MPW’s 2021 budget.

Guerra praised the district engineering office for their active performance amid the challenges brought about by the health pandemic.

“Basically, most of our projects now are roads,” Guerra said.

“Based on a JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) research, malayo ang agwat natin from national in terms of quantity ng roads paved. Within Mindanao is malayo rin tayo because of the past few years na magulo eh walang gusto at mahirap mag implement ng projects,” he added.

“Yung one-kilometer road, kung walang delay ay kayang tapusin within two months in good quality. Pero in our program of works, we give them three months to finish one kilometer,” Guerra explained.

The MPW has an approved budget of over P2.2 billion for the concreting of roads this year in the province of Sulu. (SunStar Zamboanga)
