Lim: Outrage

Lim: Outrage

We now have the most powerful weapon in our arsenal to fight this war—vaccines. And yet, when offered one, many have refused.

“Is it still necessary? I thought Covid was gone.”

“Is this virus real? I heard it’s just a scam.”

“I think I’ll get it next year. I want to wait and see.”

“I’m still waiting for my brand of choice.”

“It’s my body. I have the right not to get vaccinated.”

Do you know how outrageous these statements are to the health care workers fighting every day in the frontlines?

It’s true what they say — many people who refuse the vaccine are Covid-deniers rather than anti-vaxxers. It’s not that they don’t believe in vaccines, rather, they don’t believe in the virus. Despite the staggering 206 million cases and 4.34 million deaths globally.

In our country, it has killed more than 29,000. Are you saying that hospitals have falsely attributed all these 29,000 deaths to Covid-19? Tell me, do you know any person who does not know anyone that has been infected with Covid-19?

The virus is not going anywhere. You can stop waiting for the virus to disappear to avoid getting the jab. Would you really rather risk having a tube shoved down your throat than bear the prick of a tiny needle for less than five seconds?

You want to wait and see. If we become zombies? Look, if we do become zombies, don’t you think you’re making a terrible mistake in remaining unvaccinated?

Afraid of dying in two years? Why would the entire world unite to make the decision to inoculate all of its health care workers first if the vaccine kills?

Waiting for your brand of choice? Well, I hope you don’t die waiting. Worse, I hope you don’t kill anyone while waiting.

Afraid of the side effects of the vaccine? Cast your worries aside. A total of 4.62 billion shots have already been administered in the world.

Or maybe, you’re just indecisive. Well, I’m sorry but we can’t wait for you forever. People are dying every day. You have the right to wait. We also have the right to be safe.

So, if you want to continue waiting, do it in solitary confinement. This way, your “right to wait” will not harm public safety and health.

Or maybe, you’re just anti-vax. Well, I hope you see the light. But if you don’t, then please move to Mars. This way, your “right to remain unvaccinated” harms no one on this planet.

Vaccines are in short supply in our country. Yet you have the gall to refuse something others would do anything to get hold of. Know that if your unvaccinated body truly did not have the capacity to harm anyone else, we would not waste a second of our time in outrage.

We now have the most powerful weapon in our arsenal to fight the virus, to stop the pandemic, to end the carnage. Let’s use it and end the outrage.
