DPWH fast tracks 3 projects in Zamboanga Sibugay

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), through its 2nd District Engineering Office in Zamboanga Sibugay province, is fast-tracking the completion of three flood control projects in Ipil, the province’s capital.

The DPWH regional office said in a statement that these are the 593 linear meters (ln.m.) Flood Control Structure along Lanao-Pagadian-Zamboanga City road, Bacalan River (Phase I); 562.61 ln.m. Flood Control Structure along Lanao-Pagadian-Zamboanga City road, Buluan River (Downstream); and the 828 ln.m. Flood Control Structure along Lanao-Pagadian-Zamboanga City road, Buayan River (Phase IV–Upstream).

The structure in Bacalan River is 61.7-percent complete while that in Buluan and Buayan Rivers are 79.75-percent and 60-percent complete, respectively.

The DPWH said the three projects worth P124.9 million, which a funded under regular infrastructure, are made of steel sheet pile, rubble concrete, structural concrete for coping and aggregate subbase course for toppings.

Once completed, the structures can mitigate flood damage in major river basins thereby protecting the lives and properties of the residents, according to the DPWH. (SunStar Zamboanga)
