THE life of LausGroup of Companies (LGC) founder Liberato "Levy" P. Laus may have passed, but his memory continues to live in the hearts of his family, employees, friends and members of the community whose lives he once touched.

In celebration of his birthday Tuesday, August 17, the Laus family led by its matriarch Ma. Theresa opened the "Museo Liberato" to immortalize the legacy of the late Laus, or LPL to many.

The museum, located at the first floor of the Levy P. Laus Corporate Center, showcases some of the memorabilia, paintings and personal belongings that hold special memories for Laus and his family.

These include among others the awards he earned during his lifetime, the piggy bank he and wife Ma. Theresa used to save money to buy a television back in 1971, his favorite business attire and personal shovel that witnessed dozens of groundbreaking ceremonies of various LGC dealership branches, and news clippings featuring some of his accomplishments as LGC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. Chairman Emeritus, Clark Development Corporation President and as a civic leader.

According to Laus' daughter and LGC Executive Director Carissa, the opening of Museo Liberato is the family's way of sharing the legacy and some of the treasured belongings of their patriarch to the public.

"We believe that many people would like to remember our dad, especially for his contribution as an advocate of countryside development. Through this museum, we hope to share his story, especially to young people, and hopefully inspire them just like what our father always wanted," she said.

However, due to the pandemic, Carissa said the museum is temporarily open to LGC employees only, while virtual viewing is still being processed.

Founder's Day

Meanwhile, the LGC Board of Directors composed of Laus matriarch Ma. Theresa and her children, declared August 17 of every year as "Founder's Day."

According to Ma. Theresa, the said date is significant to the family and LGC community as it was the birth date of Laus, and also the same day in 1977 when Carworld Inc., the first ever auto dealership established by Laus, was presented for registration application before the Securities and Exchange Commission. On the same day, LausGroup-run radio station DwRW 95.1 FM was born and went into air.

The declaration of Founder's Day, Ma. Theresa added, will allow the LGC community to continuously pay tribute and celebrate the life of Laus every year.
