Sagay farmers get P10M in machinery

THE Department of Agriculture (DA), through its Rice Competitiveness Enhancement (RCEF) program, turned over P10 million worth of farm machinery to two farmers associations in Sagay City recently.

The Manara-Puey Irrigators Association and Colonia Divina Irrigators Association from Barangay Puey and Colonia Divina each received P5 million worth of machinery.

Sagay City has been introducing new technology through training and hands-on farm demonstration of farm machinery.

Mayor Alfredo Maranon III, in a statement, said this is part of the local government's thrust on food security, which is crucial especially during the pandemic.

Farm mechanization increases the level of farm activities, reduces labor costs and farm losses from harvesting to milling resulting in to increase in farmers' income, he added.

Present during the activity were Vice Mayor Narwin Javelosa, councilors Arthur Christopher Maran~on and Perfecto Maran~on, other city officials, farmers from selected barangays, and a representative from Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology-College of Agricture and Department of Education Division of Sagay.
