Covid equipment, meds arrive

THE Cebu Provincial Government has distributed emergency drugs and equipment to the 16 district and provincial hospitals to improve the management of Covid-19 cases in the province.

As of the first week of August, a total of 380 oxygen tanks; 16,000 Azithromycin tablets, 880 Dexamethasone ampules, 860 Remdesevir ampules, 50 Tocilizumab ampules, and 78 boxes of antigen test kits were distributed to the 16 hospitals.

The Provincial Health Office (PHO) also distributed two ventilators each for the provincial hospitals in the cities of Bogo, Carcar and Danao and the town of Balamban.

While one ventilator was also given to the Minglanilla District Hospital.

A total of eight highflow nasal cannula machines were given to the provincial hospitals in Danao and Carcar, seven in Balamban and Bogo, four in Minglanilla, and three each for the district hospitals in Bantayan Island and Camotes.

The PHO said some of the equipment were donated by private institutions.

Earlier, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia assured that provincial and district hospitals will be provided emergency drugs and equipment to accommodate and manage Covid-19 patients in the province.

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded a total of 5,161 active cases in the province. Of these cases, 351 are new.

The DOH also recorded a total of 199 new recoveries and 33 additional deaths bringing the total death toll to 1,225 as of Aug 16.
