3 Comelec-Bacolod employees test positive for coronavirus

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Bacolod City will be temporarily closed starting August 16 to 29 after three of its personnel tested positive for coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

City Election Registrar Kathrina Cana said Tuesday, August 17, that on August 14, one of its personnel underwent a swab test and the result turned out positive for Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes the Covid-19.

Cana, along with its 14 other personnel, also underwent swab tests on the following day and two of them also turned positive for the virus.

Cana said the result was released on August 16 and she was tested negative for coronavirus.

She said of three employees who turned positive, one was admitted to a hospital with mild symptoms, while two others were transferred to the city's quarantine facility.

The Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO) was also tasked to decontaminate or disinfect the Comelec office and its surroundings.

Cana said the voter registrations will be temporarily suspended and it will resume on August 30, a satellite registration in SM City Bacolod.

Comelec also canceled the satellite voter registrations scheduled in malls on August 20, 27, and 28.

Cana said that on September 1, the Comelec office will also open to accommodate the registrants in Bacolod City.
