THE Department of Health (DOH) in Eastern Visayas has piloted the implementation of direct delivery of pre-allocated Covid-19 vaccines to each recipient local government unit (LGU) in Eastern Visayas, the department said Tuesday, August 18, 2021.

The Regional Vaccine Operations Center (RVOC) deployed the vaccines through its third-party logistics provider, Non-Pareil.

In this pilot strategy, the vaccines were no longer transported to the cold facility of the DOH-Eastern Visayas Center for Health Development.

All pre-allocated vaccines were sorted for direct delivery, according to the regional health department.

“This is a preemptive approach of the RVOC as the region anticipates successive vaccine deliveries in the future, and for efficient vaccine transportation,” the DOH in the region said.

On Monday, August 16, the region received a total of 55,000 doses of Sinovac and 1,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, which were already pre-allocated for the different cities and municipalities in the region.

Of the 55,000 doses of Sinovac vaccines, 10,000 doses were intended for first and second dose of eligible groups in Tacloban City, 5,000 doses in Ormoc City, and 10,000 doses each for Leyte, Northern Samar, Western Samar, and Southern Leyte.

Meanwhile, the AstraZeneca vaccines have been allocated for Ormoc City with 1,500 doses, and 100 doses for Palompon, Leyte.

The regional health department urged those under the eligible priority groups “to coordinate with their respective LGUs for vaccine registration, and to get vaccinated, when it’s their turn, for additional protection against hospitalization or severe form of Covid-19).”

The region’s total number of Covid-19 cases is at 38,581 with total recoveries at 36,933 (95.73 percent) and total deaths at 437 (1.13 percent).

As of Tuesday evening, August 17, the regions’ total Covid-19 active cases is at 1,211 (3.14 percent). (SunStar Philippines)
