LOWELLA Marie Quililan is the public relations officer for Community Animal Rescue Efforts Inc. (Care). You will see her on social media platform newsfeeds rescuing abandoned and neglected dogs. She has a lot of followers on her other social media accounts, sharing stories and videos of her furbabies and her daily life as an animal welfare advocate; spreading education, awareness, fighting against animal cruelty, and promoting spay and neuter campaigns to curb the overpopulation of strays in Bacolod City.

She has been fearlessly advocating for animal welfare in the city and has been eminent in making sure to find crumbs of information to point to the people responsible for the reported abuse, confidently filing complaints on behalf of the voiceless animals and vocally sharing her views over local radio stations. You will see her going to the site, investigating, and at times painfully giving the abused animals a decent respectful burial.

Her calling as an animal welfare advocate led her to finish her Veterinary Assistant Diploma with Modular Online Courses, focusing on first aid for canine and feline at Center of Excellence in the United Kingdom, accredited by the Complementary Medical Association, which is internationally recognized as the elite force in professional and ethical complementary medicine by professional practitioners, doctors, and, increasingly, by the general public.

For the unconditional love that she has with her furbabies; Chanel, Honey, Wasabi, Bethany, Matcha, and Peanut, she committed herself to love and devote herself to her advocacy. She answered her calling in 2019 with the sole purpose of simply celebrating her birthday with the misfits, abandoned and the abused animals at the Care shelter, unknowingly paving her way to her future. Every year she decides to do something for the animals and it became her vow to fundraise with the help of her family and friends. She has sponsored free spay and neuter for 25 dogs to help curb the overpopulation of strays and for this year 2021, she has decided to celebrate her birthday with the impounded dogs at the Bacolod City Pound with the help of her friend Cece Jamero and sister Mary Cable sponsoring the food supplies.

Together with her family and friends, she delivered the food supplies for the impounded dogs, preparing food, giving them the love and the attention that they need even for a short period. She wanted to celebrate her birthday full of meaning and purpose by giving back to the dogs that have given her so much inspiration and so much happiness for years.

She has always been reluctant to visit the Bacolod City Pound as it traumatizes her seeing the awful situation. The faces of the dogs have probably haunted her but it has also strengthened her more to fight relentlessly for the voiceless animals.

Instead of shopping for new clothes for herself, she saved a dog instead, an act of selflessness, compassion, and kindness.

A simple act of devotion will change a dog’s life, let us not think only of ourselves but be of service to others.
