POLICEMEN arrested two crew members of a wooden-hulled vessel and seized some P360,000 worth of dried marijuana leaves in an anti-drug operation in this southern port city, an official announced Tuesday, August 17.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested suspects as Basri Ampul, 32, an assistant skipper, and, Tongko Sarabon, 51, the ship’s mechanic.

Ylagan said that Ampul and Sarabon were arrested in a buy-bust operation around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 17, at a private wharf in Baliwasan village, this city.

Ylagan said the two suspects yielded some three kilograms of dried marijuana leaves worth P360,000, 29 pieces of P1,000 bills boodle money topped with one genuine P1,000 bill.

He disclosed that the dried marijuana leaves reportedly came from the province of Sulu.

He said that charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against the two boat crew members. (SunStar Zamboanga)
