THE Police Regional Office (PRO) in Central Visayas has directed the Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) to investigate the beach party that was said to have been attended by some politicians in the Camotes Islands in July.

Brig. General Ronnie Montejo, PRO 7 director, made the directive after receiving an order from Philippine National Police Chief Guillermo Eleazar to look into the incident, which may have been a super spreader event that contributed to a spike in coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases in Camotes.

Montejo said they will question the organizer and the local officials of Camotes to determine whether there were violations committed.

A video of the incident showed some people partying on the beach not wearing face masks. They also failed to observe physical distancing.

Montejo said that based on their initial investigation, the party happened when Cebu was under modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), wherein gatherings were allowed at 50 percent of the venue capacity provided that health protocols were followed.
