SUN Life Philippines’ (Sun Life) Chief Human Resources Officer Hiyasmin “Yahmin” Mattison was recently honored as “People Manager of the Year” by the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP).

Mattison was recognized for her efforts in ensuring the welfare of over a thousand Sun Life employees nationwide amid the hindrances posed by the pandemic. Her team has been at the forefront in these extraordinary times, helping the community transition to working remotely while also staying safe and healthy.

Among the programs launched under Mattison’s watch are the Employee Assistance Program, which provides adequate psychological support mechanisms; Sun Life Gigs, which allows employees from various departments to volunteer for tasks that would fast-track the company’s service to clients while providing development opportunities; and Protected as One, the company’s vaccination program.

All these are on top of mounting various people development programs, digitalizing people processes, and holding employee engagement activities.

“I am truly honored and grateful for this award, especially as it has been bestowed on me by PMAP, an organization that has been so much a part of my professional development and my career,” says Mattison. “I share this award with my own HR team, who have worked tirelessly over their own personal struggles and have always given me reason to keep going. A leader is only as strong as the team behind her, and I am certain that I have the best team a people manager can hope for.”

Sun Life Philippines CEO and Country Head Benedict Sison lauded Mattison’s achievement.

“The innovations that Yahmin and her team initiated enabled Sun Life to maintain business continuity, drive organizational transformation, and help employees navigate through the crisis. In turn, the workforce was able to help the organization achieve operational resilience and continue fulfilling its obligations to its clients,” he said.

“We are proud of Yahmin and congratulate her on this wonderful milestone,” he added. (Sponsored Content)
