THE reimplementation of the Motor Vehicle Inspection System (MVIS) is an additional burden to motorists now that the entire country is still suffering from the Covid-19 pandemic, according to motorists.
Different motorist groups in Pampanga and other parts of Central Luzon are holding a series of noise barrage to stop the Department of Transportation (DOTr) from implementing the MVIS.
The groups stormed several Land Transportation Office (LTO) branches, airing their sentiments against the vehicle inspection system.
They are carrying "No to PMVIC (Private Motor Vehicle Inspection Center)" placards to air their objection against the MVIS.
The new scheme is also seen to displace hundreds of insurance and smoke emission testing firms, including their employees, according to the motorists.
In Angeles City, motorists securing their registration have to endure a long line to have their vehicle inspected at a lone PMVIC.
Starting July 26, the LTO started implementing the MVIS provided under Memorandum Circular Number MC-SC-2021-02 that makes vehicle testing procedures on light vehicles and motorcycles mandatory, particularly in areas where PMVICs are already operational.
Under the same memo, motorists are given the option to have their motor vehicles inspected either by an authorized PMVIC or LTO.
DOTR Undersecretary for Administrative Service Artemio Tuazon Jr. earlier said unsafe vehicles on the road can kill and be as deadly as those driven by a drunk driver.
He added that motor vehicles and motorcycles should be inspected for safety and roadworthiness before their registrations can be renewed with the LTO.
