CEBU City Vice Mayor Michael Rama thanked Monday, August 23, officials and employees of the City Government and police for their cooperation and support when he carried the responsibility as acting mayor while the city is under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Rama led the City Hall for more than a month while Mayor Edgardo Labella was on medical leave.

In a statement released Monday, Rama said the Labella-Rama partnership and the synergy among city councilors demonstrated that “democracy is alive in Cebu City.”

“We were united and we delivered,” he said.

“We assumed responsibility, acted and accomplished what mattered to our city while on our watch. But I must give credit to the department heads, City Hall employees, the whole Sangguniang Panlungsod, and our police for their cooperation and support, especially when we responded to the situation when we were placed under MECQ,” he added.

He gave special mention to Councilor Dondon Hontiveros, who led the City Council as acting vice mayor while Labella was on medical leave.

He said Hontiveros “acted as vice mayor with competence” and “directed as acting vice mayor the City Council that tackled issued and concerns that needed urgent and focused attention.”

He also reminded the public to continue to observe the health protocols to help the City contain the spread of the more contagious delta variant of Covid-19.

“May I remind everyone that we are still in MECQ, that EO 137 still enforces our Oplan Puyo through Task Force 8/15-31. Please heed and cooperate,” Rama said. (JJL)
