THE Iloilo City Government will once again implement border controls all over the boundaries of the metro and enforce stricter compliance to health protocols in barangays in a bid to lessen the transmission of the more contagious Delta variant of Covid-19.
Mayor Jerry P. Treñas consulted with the City’s Covid team and private sector Monday, August 23, 2021, to come up with recommendations on how to arrest the spread of cases, especially coming from the provinces.
“It was decided to restore the border checkpoints starting tomorrow - only the essential personnel and authorized persons outside residence will be allowed entry in the city. I have also instructed our compliance team to strengthen monitoring and enforcement of minimum health protocols in barangays,” he said.
Border control will be suspended every Thursday when the city opens its vaccination sites to non-residents.
Data from the Department of Health showed cases, especially in the province of Iloilo, have reached more than 300 as of August 22, 2021.
Iloilo City has some 80 cases for the same day.
Treñas said if cases continue to rise, he might consider the issuance of quarantine passes.
“As long as there is movement of people, and those who are unvaccinated, cases will still continue to go up now that we have community transmission possibly due to the Delta variant,” he added.
The City Government has likewise imposed an earlier curfew from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. as part of the measures to lessen the transmission of Covid-19. (PR)
