SOME 42 farmers in Moises Padilla town in Negros Occidental have been identified as potential beneficiaries of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (Carp).

Municipal Agrarian Reform Program Officer Bonifacio Trayvilla said the farmers signed an undertaking and took an oath to signify that they have qualified for the screening process.

The signing of the application to purchase and farmers' undertaking along with the oath-taking was held at the Isabela Covered Gym on Tuesday, August 24.

The potential agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs) would share the 24.24 hectares of the landholding formerly owned by the True Development Corporation situated in Barangay Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla.

Judge Ma. Lynette Eusebio, who administered the oath-taking, discussed to the potential beneficiaries the content of their undertaking.

Eusebio encouraged the farmers to work hard and make their land more productive.

She also warned them not to engage in illegal activities such as sale and lease of lands, which are grounds for disqualification from the program.

Senior Agrarian Reform Program Technologist Efren Tan also discussed the rights and duties of farmer-beneficiaries under the Republic Act 6657.

These included payment of land amortization and real property taxes.

"Our program does not end with the distribution of lands because the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) has bundles of support services in order to ensure that our ARBs will become productive," he said, adding that the agency is also working on making the program sustainable not just for the existing farmer-beneficiaries but also for the future generation.
