Police commanders told: Implement security adjustments

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) Chief Guillermo Eleazar has ordered police commanders to implement necessary adjustments in their areas of responsibility to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Eleazar said police commanders should assess the situation in their areas and draw up security adjustments based on local factors causing transmission of coronavirus and existing health and safety protocols.

He said the Joint Task Force Covid Shield should also identify the best practices in some local government units (LGUs) that could be replicated in areas with high Covid-19 cases.

He said that despite the implementation of quarantine protocols, several quarantine violators are still being accosted in the past days.

The PNP believes that the first line of defense against Covid-19 is the determination to prevent the spread of coronavirus). The enforcement part involving the PNP is an added layer of defense against those who continue to defy the quarantine rules,” he added.

So far, the Philippines has a total of 1,869,691 cases, wherein 127,703 are active.

In the PNP, 33,826 police personnel have tested positive for the virus. Of the number, 102 have died and 31,974 have recovered.

As of August 26, the PNP has 93,725 or 42.19 percent fully vaccinated police personnel, while 104,562 or 47.07 percent have already received the first dose. (SunStar Philippines)
