THE Iloilo City Government urged Ilonggos to double safety efforts and tighten their guards against Covid-19 following records of Delta variant, which spread faster than the original variant of Sars-CoV-2.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said stricter health protocols among frontliners and quarantine facilities should be observed in dealing with inbound travelers, including returning residents, returning overseas Filipinos, overseas Filipino workers, and Authorized Persons Outside of Residence (Apor).

Treñas also reiterated to residents not to be complacent but practice preventive measures even as vaccination rollout will come closer to constituents in the barangays.

"I am so happy our vax centers are full. Let us get more people protected. The Delta variant is more infectious and more virulent. The vaccines can help us," he said.

Iloilo City has recorded more than 100 daily cases since August 23 and a total of 15 Delta cases. There were also two Alpha and three Beta cases reported in the metro. All of these variants are considered highly contagious.

"We've reached 100 plus cases for the first time after several months. It is clear that the Delta variant and all the other variants are affecting the rate of infection. Let us stay in our houses and only go out for essentials. The hospitals are getting full and the deaths are growing. Please stay at home. Please get vaccinated. Protect yourself and your families," said Treñas. (PR)
