Daily coronavirus positivity rate continues to climb

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, August 29, 2021, reported more than 18,000 new coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases, lower than the record high 19,441 listed the previous day, as testing output was lesser although the positivity rate reached a new high of 27.9 percent.

In its case bulletin Sunday, the DOH recorded 18,528 new cases, 101 additional deaths and 17,922 recoveries.

The new infections brought the cumulative case count to 1,954,023, after the removal of of 205 duplicates. The DOH case bulletin said the cases are still expected to rise further in the next several days as local government units intensify active case finding and contact tracing efforts.

Seven laboratories did not submit their testing output to the Covid-19 Document Repository System on August 27. Diagnostic tests for Sars-CoV-2 were lower at 66,225 compared to the record high 71,620 on August 26.

The daily positivity rate increased to 27.9 percent on August 27 from 27.5 percent the previous day.

The additional mortalities, which included 38 cases initially tagged as recoveries but were found to be deaths, raised the Covid-19 death toll in the Philippines to 33,109. The case fatality rate retreated to 1.69 percent.

With the additional recoveries, 1,777,693 have now been tagged as recovered from Covid-19 in the Philippines.

The active cases went up to 143,221, still lower than the April 2021 peak of over 200,000 active cases.
