After that beating he got from Yordenis Ugas last week, when Manny Pacquiao had to deal with an injury to his eye for the first time post fight, there are now talks that the Pacman is entertaining a rematch offer from the Cuban. Aside from that, they say Manny is eyeing a farewell fight, preferably at home.
I sure hope none of them is true.
Pacman’s boxing career is now over. It’s time he concentrates on his other job, as senator of the Philippines. God knows because of his recent political steps, he’s going to be very busy.
He’s got quite a foe in President Duterte and if he keeps on donning his part-time boxing hat, he’d be gobbled up.
Some say that Pacquiao lost a spring in his steps because he overtrained for the Ugas fight. He wasn’t as quick. Pacquiao himself has said that he cramped in the early rounds.
Could that be blamed to the fact that less than a month before the fight he was forced to live in two time zones? As a boxer training in the US and as a senator trying to keep up with political developments in PHL time while in the US?
It’s not that I don’t want Manny to have that farewell fight and end his career with a win. Ending his career, at home, has been the dream of many Pacquiao fans for years.
But that was before the pandemic. That was before millions lost their jobs due to a botched pandemic response.
Now, should Manny even entertain a final fight at home early next year, the citizens, not just the fans, will see it for what it is—one final push before the May election.
Now richer than most politicians—even the crooked ones—I think it’s time for the Pacman to call it quits. Fighting is a young man’s game. His legacy is assured and a spot in the boxing hall of fame is his for the taking.
There are bigger fights ahead for the Pacman and the only way for him to win these fights is to concentrate on them, fully.

This transfer season is sure one for the books.
Had he gone to Man City, it would have meant a clash with Messi’s PSG in the group stage of the Champions League.
