Court stenographer wounded in gun attack

A COURT stenographer survived while her daughter was unscathed in a gun attack in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Sunday, August 29, 2021.

Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the victim as Josephine Butlig, 59, and her daughter, Angelica.

Ylagan said that prior to the incident, Butlig and her daughter were tending their store around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 28, in Purok Orchids in Poblacion village, Margosatubig, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ylagan said the suspect, armed with a caliber .45 pistol, barged into the store and opened fire while pretending to be a customer.

He said the suspect casually walked and fled from the crime scene after the incident.

He said the suspect was wearing black pants, gray hooded jacket and with face mask.

The elder Butlig was admitted to the Margosatubig Regional Hospital, while an investigation continues to establish the identity of the suspect. (SunStar Zamboanga)
