BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran urged barangay-based youth in the city to be aware of their social responsibility to their communities in the wake of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

Familiaran, who led the Barangay Alijis KK (Katipunan ng Kabataan) Assembly and Linggo ng Kabataan 2021 celebration on Saturday, said he is thankful for all the efforts of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) members in the said village led by its Chairman Reymar Berja for their proposed community pantry that will cater to the needs of the poor.

The activity was also attended by its village chieftain Deogracias Dela Vega and Police Captain Elmer Bonilla, station commander of Police Station 7.

"It is commendable that you are serving your community at a young age. It is good training ground for you as future leaders of the city," Familiaran said.

He said in the face of a health crisis, it is imperative that young leaders must always keep themselves informed as knowledge empowers them to make the right decisions.

"You have to be conscious of your social responsibility, spend time to read because knowledge is power. Take time to also listen to the news. You have to keep yourselves informed as future leaders," he added.

Familiaran noted that it is worth mentioning that the Covid-19 infections in Bacolod are kept at manageable levels during the last 20 days, as shown by data from the Emergency Operations Center and the regional office of the Department of Health.

The vice mayor said like the youth of Barangay Alijis, he just came from Barangay Singcang-Airport, where young leaders also partnered with a private sector for a community pantry for the indigent residents.
