4 new cases of Delta variant detected in Bacolod City

FOUR new coronavirus disease (Covid-19) Delta variant cases have been detected in Bacolod City, an official said.

On her Facebook page, City Administrator Em Ang, executive director of Emergency Operations Center-Task Force (EOC-TF), said on Saturday, August 28, 2021, four more individuals in Bacolod City tested positive for the Covid-19 Delta variant based on the report from the Philippine Genome Center (PGC).

She said all cases are women, including the 55-year-old from Barangay Villamonte; 78-year-old from Barangay Singcang-Airport; 25-year-old from Barangay Taculing; and the 31-year-old from Villa Angela Phase II-B, Barangay Vista Alegre.

She added this brought to a total of 10 Delta variant cases recorded in Bacolod City.

Ang noted that the four new cases have already recovered and have completed the mandatory quarantine and isolation.

“Even with all our best efforts, the highly contagious Delta variant threatens to drive another surge in Covid-19 cases. The variant’s higher transmissibility means clusters of cases can quickly lead to bigger outbreaks, making it more important for us to keep our guards up,” Ang said.

Bacolod City earlier recorded six Delta variant cases that included a six-month-old boy, a resident of Barangay Bata; a 45-year-old man, a resident of Barangay Villamonte; a three-year-old boy, a 63-year-old woman, both residents of Barangay Mansilingan; a 71-year-old male resident of Barangay Banago; and the 32-year-old pregnant woman from Barangay Sum-ag.

In July, the Department of Health-Western Visayas sent a total of 166 samples to the PGC for confirmation whether there are positive for the Delta variant.

As of August 28, 2021, Bacolod City had a total of 16, 566 Covid-19 cases. Of the number, 15,310 patients already recovered, 861 were active cases with 392 deaths.
