YOUNG achievers, sisters Kiersten Candice Sy and Kylaine Trisha Sy recently won in the Philippine International Math and Science Olympics (Pimso) – Science by International Champions in Education (ICE), an international competition in Mathematics and Science accredited by Department of Education (DepEd).

Pimso aims to unite students across nations and establish their aspirations in pursuit of excellence by recognizing each child’s potential through technologically driven, innovative, fair, and relevant opportunities headed by ICE president and chief executive officer Robert Fordan; members of the board, engineer Ely Rodriguez of Gem B and doctor Stephen Jinon of Book A Tutor.

The Sy sisters, daughters of businessman Steve Sy and Dr. Cathy Sy, both triumphed in the Science subject over more than a thousand of participants from the the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Australia, to name a few.

Kiersten Candice, 13—who loves being in the limelight and models for Great Image—started joining academic competitions when she was in first grade. She joined the Metrobank-MTAP-DepEd Math Challenge, the longest-running math competition in the country.

She then became more engaged with Mathematics that made her a part of the Philippine team headed by the Mathematics Trainers Guild (MTG), and led her to compete in Thailand and China. Kiersten Candice did not just gain a medal but an experience that would last a lifetime. She will now be entering Cebu City National Science High as a Grade 7 student.

Kylaine Trisha is currently studying in Cebu Eastern College. The seven-year-old idolized her older sister and wanted to follow in her footsteps; the reason why she also joined the Pimso by ICE. As young as she is, she has received a lot of achievement awards in school, including her recent win in Pimso by ICE, hailed as the Top Scorer in first grade.

Both Kiersten Candice and Kylaine Trisha were both taking International Science Online training and Olympiad preparation as part of their preparation for the competition, on top of studying the materials being provided to them, and praying.

This is now your child’s chance to be the next champion, just like the Sy sisters, with International Champions in Education. Check out its upcoming competition, the Siam International Math and Science Olympics (SIMSO). All students are welcome to join.

Registration will start this September. For information, contact 0918-313-4567 or email ice.cebu.ph@gmail.com. (PR)
