A MEMBER of the New People's Army (NPA) was killed in a clash in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental on Saturday afternoon, August 28.

The 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division (4ID) reported that two M16 rifles and one M14 rifle were recovered after a 25-minute firefight between the rebels and the Army's 42nd Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) under the operational control of 58th Infantry (Dimalulupig) Battalion (5IB) at the vicinity of Talupa, So. Dumagook, Barangay Lawaan in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental around 5:10 p.m.

The troops clashed against more or less 10 rebels who were believed to be armed elements of Sub Regional Sentro De Gravidad (SRSDG) MTJ Eagles of the North Central Mindanao Regional Command (NCMRC).

No casualties were recorded on the military side. The troops are still conducting pursuit operations against the fleeing rebels.

Major General Romeo Brawner Jr., commander of 4ID, said the encounter and the surrender of NPA rebels last week manifest the tactical proficiency of their troops.

"These accomplishments are results of careful planning and strategy born out from good intelligence, and the flawless execution of competent and capable leaders and soldiers. Congratulations to 42nd DRC and the 58th IB," Brawner said.
