Eastern Visayas Covid-19 deaths climb to 456

EASTERN Visayas logged on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, four new fatalities due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19), bringing the total number of deaths to 456 since June 2020.

The new deaths were identified as EV38419, a 73-year-old male from Dulag, Leyte who died on August 22, 2021; EV38538, an 84-year-old male from Calbayog, Samar who died on July 24, 2021; EV36819, a 78-year-old male from Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte who died on August 3, 2021; and EV36378, an 89-year-old female from Macrohon, Southern Leyte who died on July 31, 2021.

The regional health department said 38 new Covid-19 cases were also recorded on Tuesday, August 31, out of 348 laboratory samples tested at the Eastern Visayas Regional Covid-19 Testing Center and Divine Word Hospital Virology Laboratory in Tacloban City.

The new cases, which represent an 11 percent positivity rate, are from Tacloban (3), Leyte province (15), Southern Leyte (3), Eastern Samar (3), and Samar (14).

The region’s total number of Covid-19 cases is now at 41,039 with total recoveries at 39,165 (95.43 percent), bringing the total active cases to 1,418 (3.46 percent).

As this developed, the regional health department announced on Tuesday that Eastern Visayas received a total of 130,400 doses of Sinovac vaccines, which have been pre-allocated for direct delivery to each respective local government units for both first and second doses of the eligible priority groups.

The vaccines will be delivered to Eastern Samar (40,000 doses), Northern Samar (25,000 doses), Western Samar (30,000 doses), Southern Leyte (20,000 doses), Ormoc City (5,200) and Tacloban (5,000).

Meanwhile, the remaining 5,200 doses of Sinovac vaccines have been transported directly to the cold storage facility of the regional health department “for further allocation and distribution.” (SunStar Philippines)
