Pinoy Big Brother launches Season 10, holds virtual auditions

Dubbed “the most popular house in the country,” the Big Brother house opens once again for a 10th season of the vastly popular reality show, “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB).”

Director Laurenti Dyogi admitted that there was no plan to stage another season this early, especially under the pandemic. However, the opportunity surfaced, especially with the collaboration with Kumu which started with Season 9, a few months back.

Kumu is “a Pinoy community platform” where netizens “can get paid by being a livestreamer, win cash prizes by playing live games, and make money by participating in promotions and campaigns” on the online platform.

The second edition under the pandemic, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10, will have three “Kumunities” (editions) namely, Celebrity, Adult and Teen.

The virtual auditions for adults is from Sept. 1 to 30 while for teens will be on Dec. 1 to 31. Interested parties (adults aged 20 to 40 years old) will have to download the Kumu app, create an account, introduce one’s self and explain why he/she deserves to be one of Kuya’s housemates in a one-minute Kumu clip. The video should be uploaded with the hashtag “PBBKumuAdults.”

When asked during the virtual media conference dubbed #DreamTwoGether (its second part is for the virtual concert of sibling groups BGYO and BINI), Dyogi attributed the show’s longevity to showing “a new experience in every season.”

He also quipped that behind-the-scenes instances are “the most challenging.” He said there are no specific criteria for the selection of housemates. “Bagayan lang” or appearing as one who gets the nod of screeners for fitting into the mold of a housemate.

He acknowledged casting as a vital element of the show, adding that many have become popular show business personalities while those who opted out of the limelight had their lives changed for the better.

Among the very visible “graduates” of the show are Kim Chiu, Melai Cantiveros, Maymay Entrata, Gerald Anderson and PBB co-host Robi Domingo himself. Domingo singles out Cantiveros and Entrata as having distinct personalities that can entertain viewers.

Toni Gonzaga-Soriano, who hosted the first episode until the present, advised interested housemates-to-be to “know one’s self” and avoid pretending to be somebody else. She gives credit to Kris Eulago of the production department for the now iconic greeting: “Hello, Philippines. Hello, World.”

Bianca Gonzales-Intal, another co-host, explained that the reality show is not an artista search, but coming up with “graduates” who became showbiz assets like Chiu, Cantiveros and Entrata, to name some, is a bonus.

Dyogi assured that the housemates will be placed in a “bubble” with the strictest health protocols implemented and observed.

Gonzaga-Soriano also gave tribute to the show for serving as a training ground for her hosting ability. She further thanked ABS-CBN management and the PBB family for giving her the job which she considers as the biggest blessing in her life.

The airing date for “Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) Kumunity Season 10” is still to be announced.
