Rafi to award LGUs over vax campaign

THE Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (Rafi) is set to award local government units (LGUs) in Cebu to encourage them to intensify their vaccination rollout.

Rafi’s “Bakuna Campaign Award” aims to encourage barangay officials and local stakeholders to initiate and undertake vaccination campaign activities to their constituents and protect majority of the population against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

Briefing journalists Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, Visayas Vaccination Operation Center (VVOC) spokesperson, said RAFI will give awards to the top five performing barangays.

Cash prizes will be given to the winning LGUs.

The LGUs that will be chosen will receive P50,000 for the first prize; P45,000 for the second prize; P40,000 for the third prize, P35,000 for the fourth prize and P30,000 for the fifth prize.

The LGUs will also be awarded for the highest number of senior citizens that they have fully vaccinated; for best practices when it comes to information and dissemination; for achievement of 70 to 100 percent herd immunity.

Based on VVOC’s August 31 monitoring, 25.66 percent of the eligible population in Metro Cebu are now fully vaccinated while 43.04 percent have received their first dose.

The data was collected from all public and private sector vaccination center in the cities of Cebu, Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, Talisay, Naga and the municipalities of Consolacion and Minglanilla.

Of the three highly urbanized cities, Mandaue City had 35.82 percent of its eligible population that have been fully vaccinated while 55.24 percent have received their first dose.

After Mandaue is Cebu City with 26.40 percent of their eligible population now fully vaccinated and 41.86 percent have received their first dose.

Lapu-Lapu City has already fully vaccinated 22.36 percent of their eligible population with around 44.74 percent having receiving their first dose. (MVE)
