DENICE Zamboanga faces a tough assignment in former UFC fighter Seo He Ham in the quarterfinals of the Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix Friday night, Sept. 3, 2021, in the all-women ONE Championship – “Empower” at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

The 24-year-old Zamboangeña is one of the fastest-rising fighters in the atomweight division of ONE.

She took the organization by storm beating former title challenger Mei Yamaguchi by unanimous decision in just her second fight in the ONE cage. Following the win, Zamboanga earned the No. 1 spot in the Women’s atomweight division.

Zamboanga was supposed to fight ONE Women’s atomweight champion Angela Lee. However, the fight was cancelled after Lee was sidelined because of her pregnancy.

Zamboanga has to pass through a longer and more difficult path to earn her title shot.

The 34-year-old Seo is one of the tournament’s favorites. She’s an experienced fighter who has fought in some of the biggest mixed martial arts promotions like the UFC, Rizin and Deep.

Seo is riding a six-fight winning streak since getting cut by the UFC in 2016. But she has not fought for almost two years.

Zamboanga is unbeaten with an 8-0 slate, while Seo is 23-8.

The other fights in the Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix are Alyona Rassohyna (13-4) vs. Stamp Fairtex (5-1), Meng Bo (17-5) vs. Ritu Phogat (5-1) and Itsuki Hirata (4-0) against Alyse Anderson (5-1).

On the other hand, Filipina-American Jackie Buntan (22-5) takes on Argentinean Daniela Lopez (7-5) in a Muay Thai bout in the undercard.

The 24-year-old Buntan immediately made an impact in ONE, beating promising Wondergirl Fairtex and former title contender Ekaterina Vandaryeva.

Jenelyn Olsim of Team Lakay was supposed to see action in the event against Grace Cleveland. However, the fight was cancelled after Cleveland was forced to pull out due to an injury in training.

The main event features a title fight between ONE strawweight champion Xiong Jing Nan (18-2) and eight-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion Michelle Nicolini (6-2).
