A PANEL of theologians in Rome is set to meet and evaluate the "positio," or the dissertation on life and works, of the late Archbishop Teofilo Camomot on October 21, 2021, said Fr. Mhar Balili, vice postulator of the process of canonization of Camomot.

"If their findings is affirmative, then they would forward the positio to the cardinals and if the cardinals would also find it affirmative, then they would recommend it to the Pope to declare him as venerable," Balili said in an interview with SunStar Cebu.

The positio was completed on March 3 and was approved by the Congregation of the Causes of Saints on June 17, 2020.

A positio, Balili said, is like a thesis that proves that the candidate lived a life of heroic virtues.

Balili said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, who is currently attending the Theological Symposium for the 52nd International Eucharistic Congress in Budapest, Hungary, talked with Congregation for the Causes of Saint to follow up on the process.

"His presence would tell that we are very interested with the case," he said.

Camomot's current title is servant of God, as he is a candidate for sainthood.

Should the panel of theologians approve and the Holy Father, Pope Francis, gives the title "Venerable," Balili said they would need to show a proof of a second miracle that can be attributed to the late Archbishop for him to be declared a saint, after he is declared Blessed.

"We keep on praying nga naa untay possible things nga mahimong miracle kay lisod man gud ang miracle kay naay criteria and usa ana is (it) cannot be explained by science and doctors," he said.

He said there are "many" alleged "happenings," but could be explained by medicine. (WBS)
