'Kwizko ni Kiko' launch set

THIRD District Representative Francisco "Kiko" Benitez will launch "Kwizko ni Kiko" in October 2021, targeting about 50 public and private secondary schools in the District.

This educational endeavor aims to bring a school-based competition challenging high school students to sharpen knowledge and pit learning skills among peers during this most challenging pandemic period.

Kwizko ni Kiko is the first to be launched in the district and in the province that intends to open an opportunity for Grade 10 high school students who are residents and are enrolled in schools in the Third District to experience a blended model of the contest online and face-to-face encounter.

This will test their comprehension in Mathematics, Science and Technology, Language/Reading/Literature, Social Studies and Current Events.

This endeavor is done in partnership with the Department of Education, University of the Philippines in the Visayas, Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas, and the local government units of the Third District – EB Magalona, Murcia, Silay, Talisay and Victorias.

Benitez said the competition aims to promote academic excellence and competence, and at the same time, a test of quality and efficiency of learning under the new standard system of education affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"This shall show the perseverance and quest for knowledge of our students as they live, learn, and cope in the new normal," he said.

He also noted that young people have been deprived of social interaction in a regular school environment since the onset of the pandemic. The inter-school event will stir enthusiasm among students, help build self-esteem and spark new school pride.

Exciting prizes are in store for participants and winners. This will also offer a new challenging experience for students.

More details about Kwizko ni Kiko will be announced soon and posted on the Cong. Kiko Benitez Facebook page.

Named project director is Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa, host-producer of the ABS-CBN regional television magazine show Mag TV na Amiga that featured Western Visayas tourism, business, food and heartwarming stories of its people.
