Sanchez: Election fever

Sanchez: Election fever

ELECTION fever is heating up and social media is a main battleground for the national elections.

As a Catholic environmentalist and a human rights advocate, these are my parameters for choosing a presidential candidate for the 2022 national elections.

So far, Senator Manny Pacquiao said that he will not settle for anything less than the presidency. I dislike him for espousing capital punishment.

So, too, Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson. I remember the killings of the Kuratong Baleleng, a kidnap-for-ransom gang.

The same with Ferdinand Marcos Jr. otherwise known as Bongbong Marcos or BBM for short. I might consider voting for him for advocating renewal energy.

But he refuses to apologize for human rights abuses under his father's administration despite scoring scores of conviction in US, Swiss and Philippines. Even the children of Nazi war criminals have apologized for the sins of their fathers.

From a Catholic human rights perspective, I agree with my banker cousin who said why he will vote for Vice President Leni Robredo if she decides to run.

My cousin wrote in our Viber group:

I love the Philippines so much. That's why I will not vote for the candidates endorsed by someone who has sworn to destroy our three basic inalienable rights:

1. Right to life – We're now known as EJK (extrajudicial killings) country;

2. Right to property – Philippine patrimonial resources are now pledged as loan collateral to China; and

3. Right to pursue happiness – Ever imagined what quality of life is in store for future generations?

Finally, I will not vote for the candidates endorsed by one who calls my God stupid, calls the Pope and men of God sons of whores and one who is completely bereft of decency.

If you love the Philippines, send this message to only five members of your circle. Ask those five to send it to only five members in their circle.

Pilipinas, duyan ka ng magiting.

I received from a fellow nationalist who is now settled in the US.

Maybe we can do our share, however small it may be, in arousing the innate patriotism in all of us by copying and pasting this now and sending it to our Messenger or Viber friends, and repeating it at various times as we come nearer to the 2022 elections. It simply embodies everything we have to remember.
