In its continued thrust to help its constituents in these trying times, the City Government of San Carlos donated P5.4 million in school supplies and equipment to the Department of Education (DepEd) and at the same time distributed aid to fire victims.
Among the supplies distributed were 2,000 bags of school supplies for kindergarten valued at P254,000 and funded by the Office of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, 182 units of printers worth P1.5 million, and several reading materials valued P3 Million, a press release from the city said.
It added that aside from school supplies and equiptment, 65 units of grass cutters worth P679,250.00 were also given to the schools
The budgeted spent for the items distributed were taken from the Special Education Fund (SEF) of the city government.
Mayor Renato Gustilo and Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona of San Carlos City led the distribution to Schools Division Superintendent Anthony Liobet, CESO VI.
Liobet said printers and grass cutters will be used in preparing for the opening of classes on September 13.
He added the school supplies which will be given to kindergarteners will help parents save their budget intended for the school opening and will provide convenience to school children.
“We are fortunate in San Carlos because we have a very strong, supportive and dedicated local leaders wherein whatever we propose, they eventually approve,” Liobet added.
He said aid the office of Congressman Gerardo P. Valmayor Jr. of the 1st District of Negros Occidental has also been providing resources to DepEd for the construction of buildings and other facilities.
Liobet also reminded students to be patient, studious and driven in their studies and not to depend on other people especially in answering modules but should seek help from capable adults and older siblings including their teachers if they encounter problems.
Meanwhile, San Carlos City also provided assistance to 94 families affected by a fire that hit Parola, Barangay 6 Tuesday last week.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Cynthia Mirande said that after the disaster they immediately gave hot meals to 345 victims who took temporary shelter at the Covered Court in Brgy. 6 and at the Regional Evacuation Center in Margarita Village, Brgy. 2.
She added that the CSWDO has also been providing three meals each day while other private entities and local and national agencies in the city donated basic necessities like food and clothing.
Joe Recalex Alingasa Jr., City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, said they have already given personal hygiene kits and sleeping mats to the victims.
Several supplies donated by private individuals thru the CDRRMO were also handed over to the affected families earlier.
Luzvecita Villanueva, 63 years old fire victim, said their family failed to save anything during the incident but they are still grateful since they received overwhelming donations from the local government and other private individuals. (PR)
