NLEX names digital art competition winners

THE North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corporation announced the 12 winners of its recently concluded NLEX-SCTEX Digital Art Competition 2021.

The diverse winners of the digital art competition include Jaylord S. Losabia, Iloilo (Mosaic of Memories from the North); Mark Angelo B. Argarin, Valenzuela City (Pathways to Progress); Alfred C. Vicere, Bohol (Paradise of the North); Allen F. Domantay, Pangasinan (Getting You There); Jaya D. Nagrampa, Cavite (Sa Saliw ng Ritmong Hilaga); Christian D. Principe, Caloocan City (Beauty of the North); Joshua D. Villena, Batangas (The Path to Northern Wonders); Jherico Glenn B. Didulo, Leyte (Woven As One); Dick Jones S. Sarmiento, Cavite (Lakbay); Nicko C. Rodolfo, Camarines Sur (Fildaimonia); Jeffrey D. Costales, Quezon City (My Family, My Journey); and Sanched S. Aromin, Pangasinan (Hibla ng Hilaga).

They will each receive P25,000 cash prize and their artworks will be featured in the 2022 NLEX Calendar. Non-winners will each receive a Certificate of Participation and a special token from NLEX.

Winners were selected based on the originality of the work concept (40 percent), unity of composition of elements (25 percent), relevance to the theme and interpretation (20 percent), and technical proficiency and creative use of digital media (15 percent).

The competition was judged NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista; Aldrine Alarcon, a multi-media artist and professional painter; Anina Rubio, a visual artist and muralist; Berlin Manalaysay, creator of Funny Komiks character Combatron; and Stephen Jorge Segovia, an illustrator, a graphic artist and comic book artist at Marvel and DC comics.

Gateway

NLEX received a total of 380 entries from the National Capital Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Eastern and Western Visayas, Caraga, among others.

With the theme: “NLEX-SCTEX: Gateway to the Unique People and Culture of the North," the competition was mounted with the intention of knowing the insights of customers through their artworks that express how NLEX-SCTEX has led them to cultural discoveries and unique northern experiences.

Through the years, NLEX Corporation has been an enabler of progress as its expressways bring travelers to their destinations and open floodgates of opportunities to people and businesses.

We were overwhelmed by the support of our local talents from different regions as they all made an effort to submit their innovative artworks and share their stories of how NLEX-SCTEX paved way to cultural discoveries and meaningful connections,” NLEX Corp. President Bautista said.

Every year, NLEX Corporation produces thematic calendars that highlight its seamless road network’s vital role in spurring growth, offering opportunities for people, and promoting cultures of the North and Central Luzon. It previously used paintings and photographs by Filipino artists and now gears towards digitization thus the use of digital art in its 2022 calendar.
