COVID-19 critical care utilization rate in Davao Region is currently at "high risk" following the large volume of Covid-19 patients.

Based on the data provided by the Department of Health-Davao Region (DOH-Davao), 79.4 percent of the 233 intensive care units (ICU) beds in the region were already fully occupied. A total of 48 ICU beds were available.

Isolation beds in the region were 58.3 percent fully occupied, with 333 out of 799 beds remained available.

Ward beds in the region were 74.1 percent fully occupied, with 210 out of the 811 beds remained available. Only 69 out of 104 mechanical ventilators remained unoccupied.

"Maski atong pagbali-bali sa atong data, naa na gyud ta sa (No matter what we do with the data, we are already at a) high-risk utilization, even if i-add up nato atoang mga private na hospital beds (we add up the number of hospital bed from private hospitals)," Dr. Rachel Joy Pasion, Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit Head of the Department of Health-Davao Region (DOH-Davao), said in a virtual presser on Monday, September 6.

The Southern Philippine Medical Center last week released an advisory informing the public that it has been experiencing an unusually high volume of patients needing admission for Covid-19.

As of September 5, the facility utilized 85 ICU beds out of the 92 total number of beds; it utilized 490 ward beds out of 496 total beds.

Pasion said they had been meeting with different stakeholders in putting up additional facilities for moderate cases of Covid-19.

Dr. Raquel Montejo, DOH-Davao Local Health Support Division chief, said the Davao City government is currently conducting an inventory of their healthcare workers.

Montejo said there is a need for additional healthcare workers, especially for SPMC.

SPMC Chief Dr. Ricardo Audan said in a previous interview that the hospital is in need of additional manpower for them to expand their facility.
