A VILLAGE chairman in Apalit, Pampanga has been the subject of negative comments on social media for allegedly violating various health protocols.
The comments came after several photographs of Barangay Sulipan Chairman Reynaldo "Boy Torno" Mamangun were posted on the "Apalit I Love It" Facebook page, the official account of the local government unit of Apalit.
In the said post, Mamangun was seen not wearing a face mask while in a public place and dealing with his constituents.
The post also disclosed that the village chairman allegedly failed to comply with the mandatory quarantine protocol after he was identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 patient who recently died.
The said post has already earned 932 reactions, 486 shares and 171 comments as of this posting Tuesday, September 7, with most comments noting that Mamangun was violating the protocols he was supposed to be implementing.
The local government has warned Mamangun to follow health protocols and respect the efforts of frontliners, and the safety of the public.
It noted that Barangay Sulipan has the third highest number of confirmed Covid-19 cases among the 12 barangays in the town with 130 as of Monday, September 6.
In a phone interview with SunStar Pampanga, Mamangun admitted his "unintentional" violation of the health protocols.
"Nagkamali po ako. Wala naman pong taong perpekto pero sa ngayon naka-quarantine na ako at hindi na pumapasok sa barangay," he said.
(I was wrong. Nobody is perfect. Right now, I am on quarantine and not entering the village.)
He added that prior to the Monday incident, he was already under quarantine since August 28 and has not exhibited any Covid-19 symptoms.
He also stressed that photographs of him not wearing face masks were isolated, but assured that it will not happen again.
