Radio commentator requests NBI 7 to probe City Hall, food caterer

RADIO commentator Arturo Barrit has lodged a complaint against the Cebu City Government before the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) 7 over the packed meals worth P19.5 million that were bought from a food caterer allegedly “favored” by the City.

Barrit is asking the NBI 7 to investigate some Cebu City officials who reportedly earned money by colluding with M & R Food Services, the catering business that the City hired to provide meals for frontliners in the Covid-19 pandemic.

In his letter, Barrit wrote: “Whether there were non-delivery of packed meals or ghost deliveries of orders, devalued packed meals as what other concerned city hall officials would point out, then it is hereby humbly requests by this concerned taxpayer for the NBI to take its active role to unmask the real culprit and perpetrator of these questionable transactions.”

In a statement he posted on Facebook, Barrit claimed that City Hall officials bought packed meals amounting to P19.5 million from M & R Food Services, which he claimed to be “unqualified in terms of financial standing,” but was given “favor” to provide services to the City.

M & R Food Services, which is located in Barangay Kamputhaw, is owned by Marvin and Rhea Gillera.

Barrit described the food services firm as a “small carenderia,” having a capitalization of P50,000. It declared a gross income of P8.5 million for the year 2020.

Barrit’s letter-complaint was addressed to NBI 7 Director Rennan Augustus Oliva. The complaint was received by the NBI 7 on Aug. 23, 2021.

SunStar Cebu tried to get the side of Cebu City Administrator Floro Casas Jr., but he was not in his office. Casas did not take calls. He promised SunStar last week to explain the selection of M & R Food Services last Monday, Sept. 6, 2021.

Casas earlier had promised SunStar Cebu that he would provide a full explanation on what had happened. SunStar Cebu also contacted M & R Food Services, but its owners have not replied to queries as of press time. (JKV, PAC)
