THE Magnolia Hotshots rallied from a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to upend the NLEX Road Warriors in double overtime, 112-105, in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup on Wednesday, September 8, 2021, at the Don Honorio Ventura State University Gym in Bacolor, Pampanga.

The Hotshots appeared out of it at the onset of the fourth as they trailed, 71-87, after NLEX forward Anthony Semerad canned a triple. However, Magnolia came roaring back to tie the match at 94-all after a free-throw by Paul Lee. In overtime, Magnolia trailed by three, 101-104, with 10 seconds left but little-known forward Aris Dionisio sent the game to another overtime as he canned a three-pointer to tie the game at 104-all with just 2.4 seconds to go.

In the second overtime, crafty big man Ian Sangalang took over, scoring six of the team’s eight points to push the Hotshots to the victory and improve their win-loss record to 6-2.

Calvin Abueva stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks. Sangalang finished with 21 markers and eight boards while Lee had 18 markers despite shooting just 3-of-15 from the field. Mark Barroca contributed 13 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Jericho Cruz had 21 points as NLEX dropped to 4-3. (JNP)
