NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has high hopes that the province would not further reach higher coronavirus disease (Covid-19) cases as it has experienced before.
Lacson made the statement as the province continues to experience high cases of Covid-19 this week, which is believed to have been triggered by more contagious variants.
He said they have been noticing an upward trend again with new cases nearing triple digits for the past few days.
Lacson said it is difficult to conclude what specific type of variants could be causing the recurring high cases of infection.
Lacson said earlier in 2021, Negros Occidental’s number of cases peaked at 2,000.
"We should be alarmed if we don't do anything about it," Lacson said.
The governor reiterated his call for Negrenses to practice frequent hand washing, wearing face masks and face shields when outdoors, and observe physical distancing.
As of September 8, 2021, Negros Occidental had 1,648 active Covid-19 cases.
