BARANGAY Health Workers (BHWs) in Bacolod City will now receive a monthly allowance of P5,500 from P4,500.

This, after the Bacolod City Council approved on third and final reading an ordinance amending Section 1 of City Ordinance 913 Series of 2019 or an ordinance amending Section 4 of the City Ordinance 623 Series of 2012, an ordinance increasing the allowance of the BHWs in the city Wednesday, September 8.

Its author Councilor Cindy Rojas, chairperson of the City Council committee on health and sanitation, said the BHWs are the frontliners who provide health care services and programs not only of the city but also of the barangays to make sure that the population is healthy.

“The barangay healthcare worker’s current allowance is not sufficient to cover the daily expenses of our health workers in the performance of their duties and responsibilities to the people of Bacolod City,” she said.

She added the BHWs are working tirelessly as frontliners in the fight against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic and are undergoing unprecedented risk for their well-being.
