THE Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa)-Mactan station said Typhoon Kiko will have no direct effect in Cebu, but the island may experience mostly cloudy, windy, with passing light to moderate rain showers this weekend.

Pagasa weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino said Cebu can expect a windy weather with isolated rain showers due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or "habagat" enhanced by Typhoon Kiko, which as of Friday afternoon, September 10, 2021, continued to intensify as it moves west northwestward threatening northern Luzon.

"Hangin is moderate and the wave height is moderate kasarangan. So, delikado ang gagmay kaayo na sasakyan pandagat labi na wala pa na ka landfall ang Bagyong Kiko," he said noting, however, that there is no gale warning issued in Cebu yet.

The expected wind speed is expected to be at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour and the wave height is expected to be at 1.25 to 2.4 meters.

Typhoon Kiko entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 or a day before Typhoon Jolina left the country on Wednesday night, September 8, 2021.

Eclarino said the Pagasa Mactan Station recorded 27.5 millimeters (mm) of rain during the wake of Typhoon Jolina in the Visayas.

Every one mm of rain is equivalent to 5,000 barrels of rain per square kilometer. (WBS)
