Tell it to Sunstar: Empowering oneself amidst the pandemic

THE 2019 pandemic was and still is the tragedy we all were not expecting. But I believe in the saying, “A tragedy can also be an opportunity.” Therefore I stay optimistic and I advise you to do the same. After all, it’s not everyday you are given the chance to do everything you want in the comfort of your own home.

Start by finding something you can be passionate about. In other words, look for a new hobby and master it if you can.

A recent activity that I’ve been enjoying is dancing, of course, that was at the beginning of quarantine. Now an activity that I have come to love is playing the guitar. I dance every now and then but not as often as I used to. Both were hard at first as I was new to them but over time I got better.

The strings started to hurt less, I got calluses on my fingertips, my stamina increased, and my moves were not that “sloppy.”

Stress is inevitable. Everyone is bound to have some stress here and there. Life isn’t all unicorns and rainbows, everyone has their own hardships to face.

I overcome my stress by facing it head on. I find the problem and make a solution. Sounds easy but it’s a little bit more complicated than that.

Every problem is different so every solution is tailored to that problem. It requires a lot of thinking but the important part is putting your plan into action.

Leaning on other people is also a good idea. Certain people provide comfort; they make us feel happy and safe. Although I don’t entirely recommend leaning on people for everything, one should be able to find happiness in oneself and have the ability to do things on your own.

Nonetheless I would say my sister is a great help, not just during quarantine but my whole life. Despite our four-year age gap we understand each other very well. I feel no bad judgment coming from her and vice versa. My sister is someone I can wholeheartedly trust my entire life with.

“Everything happens for a reason.” This statement is rather controversial. Some people say it’s pointless. Others might even say everything is carefully planned by God. Either way both are true.

There could be a reason for this tragedy but as of now we don’t know why or what for. “Live life your way.” This statement simply means to do what you want. Your opinion, wants and needs are absolute. After all, it is your life.

“If there’s a will there’s a way.” This just means that nothing is impossible, nothing is out of your reach if you want it go ahead and get it.

“Time fixes everything.” This statement is tricky because I wouldn’t say time fixes pain or hardships, time solely subsides your pain, each day making it easier to accept.
